“On our final day leaving a remote islet in the Mentawai, our boat sank, forcing us to swim through the darkness for 5 hours. Exhausted, we eventually drifted ashore in silence. The ocean was now still, and the night sky, void of the moon, revealed the Milky Way in its full glory. Fireflies danced around us, and the water came alive with glowing phytoplankton. This moment was pure magic. With so much light coming out of the darkness, the boundary between earth and sky blurred, and I had a strange feeling of being adrift in space, floating in a fairytale sky.”

The photo's ethereal distortion is a result of salt water, capturing the unexpected beauty of that unforgettable night.
